Individual Leadership Character Award Nomination Leadership Character Award Criteria The Turknett Leadership Character Awards were established in 2002 to recognize and celebrate outstanding Georgia business leaders and organizations. Nominations for these awards are evaluated against the characteristics of the Turknett Leadership Character Model™. Please read all the rules carefully. Individual Nominations Individual nominees may work either within the state of Georgia or report to an organization's department, division, or subsidiary located in Georgia. The categories for individual nominations are: Business or Public Sector: CEO/President/Partner – Small Company – The senior executive or officer of the enterprise with 1,000 or fewer employees CEO/President/Partner – Large Company – The senior executive or officer of the enterprise with 1,000 of more employees Executive/Manager – A leader or manager at any level in the organization who has direct reports Non-profit – This category is for any level of individual who is on staff at a nonprofit with 501(c)(3) status. Volunteers are not eligible in this category. Education – Faculty members and administrators of any public or private not-for-profit educational institution. "Inspiritor" – Category for exceptionally inspiring people who choose leadership regardless of their title or position, e.g., volunteers, individual contributors, administrative assistants, programmers, technicians, sales or customer service representatives, etc. Additional information Nominees may not be elected officials but all other public sector employees are eligible. Only qualified nominations will be evaluated by the advisors. All qualified nominees will be recognized at the awards luncheon and receive a complimentary seat. One nominator per nominee will also receive a complimentary seat. Winners in each category will be selected by the advisors and announced at the awards ceremony. Some examples of behaviors that typically illustrate integrity would be: always telling the truth even when it is difficult, keeping all promises, never twisting facts for personal advantage and being willing to stand up for what is right. Give up to three examples of how this person demonstrates Integrity: Respect helps create a state of partnership and teamwork. Respect is defined by the qualities of humility, empathy, lack of blame and emotional mastery. Some examples of behaviors that typically illustrate respect would be: listening and being respectful of others, not blaming others, welcoming suggestions, being willing to compromise, admitting limitations, and maintaining composure by expressing disagreement calmly. Give up to three examples of how this person demonstrates Respect: Responsibility is the acceptance of full responsibility for the success of the project, the team and the organization. Responsibility is defined by the qualities of accountability, self-confidence, courage and a focus on the whole. Some examples of the behaviors that typically illustrate responsibility are: taking initiative and being willing to act to get things done (whether it’s your “job” or not), delivering on promises and holding others accountable, being willing to express an opinion, and sharing information across the company.
