Leadership Character Award Criteria

The Turknett Leadership Character Awards were established in 2003 to recognize and celebrate outstanding Georgia leaders and organizations.  Nominations for these awards are evaluated against the characteristics of the Turknett Leadership Character Model.™

Individual Nominations

  1. Individual nominees must live and work within the state of Georgia.
  2. The categories for individuals nominations are:
    1. CEO/President/Partner – The senior executive or officer of the enterprise
    2. Executive/Manager – Any manager who has direct report staff
    3. Associate – Individual contributor (Example: administrative assistant, programmer, technician, sales or customer service representative)
    4. Non-profit 501(c)(3)/Public Sector/Education – Any job title or function

Organization Nominations

  1. For-profit companies and associations located in the state of Georgia
  2. The categories for companies are:
    1. Large - Over 500 employees
    2. Small - Under 500 employees

Additional information

  • Finalists in each category will be judged by the Advisors and will be recognized at the Awards luncheon.
  • Nominators must provide a photo of the nominee or the logo of the company being nominated by November 15th.
  • Excerpts from nominations may be published.  Please do not include personal or confidential information.

Integrity is defined by honesty, authenticity and truth telling. An organization with integrity has a culture that encourages telling the truth even when it is difficult, keeping promises, never twisting the facts, and is open to employees standing up for what they think is right.

Respect helps create a state of partnership and teamwork. Respect is defined by the qualities of humility, empathy, lack of blame and emotional mastery. An organization that demonstrates respect encourages its employees to listen and be respectful of others, to welcome suggestions, be open to compromise, and discourages finger-pointing and emotional outbursts.

Responsibility is the full acceptance of the success of the project, the team and the organization. Responsibility is defined by the qualities of accountability, self-confidence, courage and focus on the whole. An organization that exhibits responsibility has a culture that rewards employees for taking initiative and getting things done whether it is their job or not, encourages employees to deliver on promises, to hold others accountable, to share information across the company and express their opinions openly.
